Go Outside and Go Within

Do you have a designated area at home, work, or in nature where you can practice yoga, meditate, journal, and daydream? Perhaps you have a collection of inspiring spots.
As my environment shifts continuously, so does the sanctuary I nurture for my dear practices.
I roll out my mat, letting myself drift beyond my immediate surroundings.
Laying in grass, sharing laughter with the clouds
Plopping my bum in sand and witnessing how thoughts are the waves
Quietly enjoying the rain beneath an umbrella as it tap dances overhead
Singing along with the morning birds
Savoring the distant sounds of children playing and life unfolding
Dancing with the breeze as it gently caresses my being
I practice balance even through less-than-peaceful settings.
The distant hum of bustling traffic
Being so close to trains that their vibrations rumble deep within
The relentless buzz of nearby airports, evoking chaotic terminals of contemplation
Sweltering heat, humidity and pesky insects that challenge patience
Cold, dreary temperatures that reflect some of the bitter realities we encounter
Wherever, Whenever, I create time to confront feelings of despair and grief while embracing the beauty and promise that envelops me.
Spending reflective moments in nature allows me to align with a natural rhythm. After all, Hatha Yoga is about discovering harmony between opposing forces within ourselves. There is so much to learn from being with the great outdoors. Step outside and explore within.
